There is a new bulletin board being constructed outside of the Parish Hall. It will be broken into 4 parts with a lot of pictures being added. First section will be “Newcomers to Ascension” along with their names. Next will be pictures of all of the Sunday school teachers and the tutors that work at New Height Charter School. The third section will be of all of our High School Seniors, their names and where they are hoping to go to College. The last section will be The Ascension Confirmation class with pictures of them now with their mentors and pictures of then as 1st graders coming into Sunday school.
In your tour of our beautiful church, notice the 2 bulletin boards down in the undercroft that will have pictures of our Worship Team, Vergers, Acolytes, Adult Choir and Youth Choir. The other board will have pictures of the Wednesday night & Sunday Morning Youth Groups. All pictures will have names, so look around and get to know our family of Ascension, old & new.
Poor Box
"Please consider a donation of loose change or a few dollars placed in our Poor Box located on the wall in the back of the church. Every penny counts and all monies collected will given to charities benefiting the poor. Monies collected in January, February, and March, 2008 will go to the "Feed My Starving Children" program, providing food to starving children around the world."
Each quarter, the vestry will select a new charity.
TUTORING AT NEW HEIGHTS
We have started tutoring at New Height School and
have added quite a few people from Ascension to our
list. We go every Tuesday from noon to about 1:15pm
and will be adding another day of the week soon. If
you're interested in doing something like this and
have questions, please speak to Barb Johnson, Skye &
Lorreto VanGrasstek, Jodi Turner, Karen Bailey or
Mindy, or email mindy@ae-church.org
Environmental Committee
If you are called by your love of the earth to DO
SOMETHING besides feel gloomy about the future
of our environment, join the new Environmental
group at Ascension. I envision this group as a
gathering dedicated to celebrating the beauty of
God's creation through prayer, study and discussion,
maybe some outings, maybe a project or two.
whatever the group decides and wherever the Spirit
leads us. Together we can pray for the healing of
our planet. Let's include parents and older children
(about 4th grade and up) to make it an
intergenerational group. Give me a call if you are
interested. Sally Giese 715-386-3024
(Anyone who has a canoe paddle or field guide on
their bookshelf, loves to garden, or stops to enjoy a
beautiful sunset automatically belongs in this
group!!)
Eucharistic Visitors Seek Parishioners to
Join Them on Their Visits
Did you know that Ascension has around 17
parishioners who, due to age, illness or injury, are
unable to worship with us on Sunday mornings?
These are the people we know well, but who we
haven't seen for awhile. Well now there's a way for
you to visit them! Offer to go with one of
Ascension's Eucharistic Visitors when they take
communion to them! Our shut-in parish family
members will be delighted to see you, and the
Eucharistic Visitors will appreciate your willingness to
represent our Ascension community. For more
information, please contact Linda Francis.
Road to Recovery
You can help a cancer patient on the journey back to
recovery. Become an American Cancer Society Road
to Recovery volunteer driver in your community and
drive a cancer patient to and from treatment. It takes
so little time. If you have a car and can spare a few
weekday hours each month, you can help patients get
back on their road to recovery. To learn more, call
Mary Wiles at (651) 255-8183. If you or someone
you know has been touched by cancer, call 1-800-
ACS-2345 and ask for a Navigator in your
community.
