healing
“He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits.” Mark 6:7

At the Church of the Ascension we take these words of Jesus seriously. We understand that when we allow Our Lord Jesus Christ into our lives we are healed. Our Lord Jesus Christ understood that bringing God's healing love to others was part of his disciples' ministry.

We believe it is part of our ministry as well. Jesus Christ came into the world to bring God into our midst. His name, Emmanuel, means "God-With-Us". It is through experiencing the presence of God in our lives where we become one with God, and it is through being one with God where we are healed. The Hebrew people of the Old Testament understood that illness and a lack of harmony and health within themselves, their community and with God all stemmed from a broken relationship with God. The Hebrew people understood that for a person to be complete all aspects of the person, physical, emotional and spiritual, needed to be whole and healthy. Jesus was keenly aware of this as well.

Time after time the Gospel stories tell us of how he healed people who came to him in need, regardless of whether their illness was physical, emotional or spiritual. Jesus was inclusive and turned no one away, despite what custom or law dictated. Jesus' healing gifts came directly from God, and it was through his one-ness with God that Jesus brought God's healing Light to others.

Ascension currently holds monthly Healing Services, and classes on healing, including its history in the Episcopal Church and study of the healing stories of Jesus, are a regular part of Ascension's Christian Education Program. Ascension is in the process of further developing a healing and wellness ministry that will not only meet the needs of Ascension's parish family, but the greater St. Croix Valley community as well.
